Is there a method to prevent re-occuring ear infections in children?

My son had experienced 6 ear infection last year and as ear infection season appraoches in his daycare, I worry about his health. I don’t want to have to place tubes in his ears if I can avoid it. Is there a method to prevent re-occuring ear infections in children?
